Tankia 2012

2012: New season, new concept.

Welcome to a new member of the TANKIA family. The TANKIA 2012 was revealed in May at the “Double Roll-Out” together with its brother MaxWheel 2012.

We started, with a totally new concept, in October 2011 and the result was the TANKIA 2012 and the MaxWheel 2012. By combining two teams, we were also able to combine our knowledge and thus realise two totally different powertrains on one identical platform.

Due to the constant changes regarding Formula Student we decided to make some alterations. We have focused on fuel efficiency and less vehicle weight.

With the KTM 500 EXC, we have chosen to use a single cylinder engine for the first time. The appropriate Airbox was also developed by our team and with its variable intake length we were able to achieve a higher power output from the engine.

By changing the tyres to ten inch diameter, we were also able to increase agility, which then gave us a key advantage on narrow, twisting courses. Most of the other parts of the chassis were not changed and thus we stuck to our proven suspension arm and rods made from aluminium and carbon pipes. These were then adapted to the new size of our vehicle.

In the end we were able to reduce the weight of the vehicle to 155 kg and this on a performance of 58HP and 52 Nm.

Our 2012 model is also equipped with a multifunctional steering wheel for quick set-up changes. It also provides the driver with information regarding the different parameters of the car and activates launch control.
